Joanna started with yoga in 2004 in Spokane, WA. She has studied Iyengar style and restorative yoga, while maintaining a primary focus on Ashtanga. She has continued to learn and benefit from the depths of her practice and study as it has been presented to her through the lineage of her teacher, David Garrigues.
She practices it and studies it and teaches it because she loves it. It has taught her to seek out living in a different way; a deeper and more loving way; a more aware and honest way. Most importantly, it’s always teaching her no matter the conditions. She sees Ashtanga Yoga and the mysore style practice as a seriously strong and effectively designed method with a potential to lead one toward the discovery of their truest self. Her goal is to teach this method as clearly and concisely as possible while encouraging the joy and inspiration that comes from steady, conscious practice.
She moved to Philadelphia in the spring of 2012 to study and apprentice with David Garrigues at the Ashtanga Yoga School of Philadelphia. She has spent the better part of the last two years, observing, studying and teaching with David throughout the US and India. She is currently traveling and teaching.
